2009.12 Learning Resources for Intermediate Grades in Health and Career Education (K-7)
That BCCPAC call upon the Ministry of Education to work with the Ministry of Health in order to provide age-appropriate, up-to-date, and medically accurate learning resources in ESL friendly language to support the learning outcomes for intermediate grades in Health & Career Education K-7 pertaining to HIV/AIDS.
2009.11 Clarification of Benefits and Limitations of FSA Data
That BCCPAC develop and distribute a parent information kit that explains the strengths and limitations of FSAs in providing accountability at the level of individual students, teachers, schools, districts and for the system as a whole. Further, that BCCPAC consult with its membership and other education partners in the development of such a kit.
2007.7 The Implementation of Modified Letter Grades
That amendments and additions made to the Ministerial Order 191/94, Student Progress Report Order, number 9, subsections (3), (4), and (6) by stating student progress reports will contain modified letter grades. The modified letter grades will encompass only students on a modified program, who previously would not be eligible for letter grades. An example of a modified letter grade recorded on the progress report is Science 10 “**B”. The double asterisk would indicate the student has an Individual Education Program and the program was modified. A student on modified program will not be following the expected learning objectives in the curriculum for the course or subject grade. The modified letter grades demonstrate an accountability of the progress achieved, as mandated by the Individual Education Program goals.
2007.8 Amend Ministerial Order 192/194, the Provincial Letter Grade Order
That amendment and additions be made to reflect any changes to the Ministerial Order 191/94 of the Student Progress Report Order
2004.18 Inclusion of Comprehensive Driver Education in the High School Curriculum
That BCCPAC urge that the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with ICBC
- develop a comprehensive driver education program for inclusion in the high school curriculum, and
- provide sufficient funding to allow school boards to implement the program in all BC high schools.
2003.33 Provincial Implementation of the Social Responsibility Performance Standards
That BCCPAC urge the Ministry of Education to develop and provide formal training for administrators, school staff and parents on the use of Social Responsibility Performance Standards.
2003.35 Study Skills
That BCCPAC urgently request the Ministry of Education to include a comprehensive Study Skills course in CaPP 8-9 and a refresher in the new Grade 10 course that replaces CaPP 11/12. The courses should consist of, but not be limited to listening-skills, note taking, time-management and studying for tests and exams.
2003.36 Addressing Student Learning Styles
That BCCPAC urge the Ministry of Education to develop a process, in consultation with BCTF and BCCPAC and designed by an educator with appropriate curriculum expertise to develop such a tool that would assist students in providing feedback to teachers about compatibility between students’ learning styles and teachers’ teaching styles.
2002.5 Mandated Body Image Curriculum
That BCCPAC lobby the Ministry of Education to ensure Career and Personal Planning (CaPP) curriculum includes mandated information and discussions with all students (male and female) to raise awareness of eating disorders and body image. Areas to be covered should be disorder signs, preventative measures, influence of the media and peer pressure.
2002.6 Mathematics Curriculum
That BCCPAC urge the Minister of Education to review recent changes to the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Mathematics curriculum and fulfill its responsibility by ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate in a significant and relevant mathematics program suitable to their needs;
And that BCCPAC urge the Minister of Advanced Education and BC post-secondary institutions, to review the mathematics requirements for post-secondary entrance as they are not necessarily appropriate for students in their high school preparation, or in their post-secondary education, depending on the higher education program chosen.
2000.5 Daily Physical Education in BC Schools
That BCCPAC provide information to member PACs and DPACs to enable them to lobby their districts for daily physical education programs in their schools.
2000.10 Recommended Revision to School Athletic Policy
That BCCPAC recommends to the BC School Sports that it adopt the policy that all students who demonstrate a desire to play school-sponsored sports shall be given the opportunity;
And that the players shall be allocated between the teams such that each of the teams will be of approximately equal ability;
And that all players, will play as equal amount of time as possible. These recommendations shall not apply to senior teams.
1997.16C Music and Fine Arts
That the Canadian Home and School Federation support the continued role of music and fine arts education as a fundamental part of public schooling; and
That the Canadian Home and School Federation call upon its provincial affiliates to urge their local Home and School associations, school councils, school boards and departments of education to endorse this principle as a right for every child.
1996.8 Career and Personal Planning
That BCCPAC lobby the Ministry of Education to rewrite in consultation with parents from BCCPAC the Career and Personal Planning Prescribed Learning Outcomes in language that is clearly defined and that a process be put in place to inform parents of the specific curriculum and resource materials to be used prior to presentation in a classroom in order to allow parents and students the opportunity to make informed choices.
1995.4 Commonly Held Theories of Origin
That students have the opportunity to be taught the most commonly held theories on the origins of our universe and life on our planet, or at least be given a list of resources to explore these on their own;
And that students be encouraged to discuss the pros and cons of these theories without being criticized for their opinions, in order to promote critical thinking skills;
And that students be taught evolution as theory, not fact.
1995.5 Multicultural, Aboriginal, Human Rights and Anti-Racist Education
That all of the partner groups promote and advocate for multicultural, aboriginal, human rights and anti-racist education initiatives within the British Columbia school system.
1995.6 Four-Year Mandatory Language Study
That the “mandatory four-year language study” time span from grade 5 through grade 8 be changed to “a four-year period which suits district needs.”
1994.6C Vocational/Technical Education for Youth
To urge the Council of Ministers of Education Canada to recommend that provinces give the same accreditation to secondary school leavers whether they have chosen an academic or a vocational pathway;
And to urge the Council of Ministers of Education Canada to make vocational or technical education programs available to all secondary students provided that these programs include acquisition of quality literacy and numeracy skills.
1994.7C Science Curriculum at the Early Elementary Level
Support and encourage elementary science programs which address children’s informal ideas about science;
And identify avenues to promote this position and make all education partners aware of the support for teaching of science from the early elementary level.
1992.6C Inclusion of Native Studies Within the School Curriculum
That curricula and materials reflecting native heritage be developed in consultation with native peoples; And that native studies be included as a mandatory component of the curricula of schools.
